Course Description

Introduction and overview of early childhood development from conception through early childhood. Focus will be on the biological, physical, cognitive, social, moral, emotional and behavioral aspects of healthy child development. Emphasis will be placed on major historical and theoretical frameworks and perspectives of child development with consideration of gender and current cultural issues. Special stress will be placed on developmental implications for effective and educational practice.

Students will observe the developing child from various historical and theoretical frameworks and perspectives, demonstrate a working knowledge of the various stages of childhood development, select appropriate materials, plan activities to nurture and support the young child.
