Edward Behrman received his doctorate in education from the University of Pennsylvania. He was a high school English teacher and reading specialist prior to beginning his career in higher education. He formerly served on the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Delaware, and Rowan University of New Jersey. His research interests include reading comprehension processes, content literacy, adolescent literacy, critical literacy, and reading assessment. He has published on these topics in the Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy, Reading Research and Instruction, the Journal of College Reading and Learning, and other peer-reviewed journals. He currently serves on the editorial boards for the Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy, the Journal of Literacy Research, Literacy Research and Instruction, and the Issues in Teacher Education. For two years he was a member of the critical literacy committee for the International Reading Association.
