Frequently Asked Questions

There are various ways to start this process. Visit the district residency page you are interested in and complete the attached application. Or, contact National University’s residency liaisons or the district contact listed on the respective residency page.

To enroll with National University, you must provide your official transcripts proving your earned bachelor’s degree. To qualify with a partner district, check their page for specific qualifications or contact their program for details.

If your bachelor’s degree is from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning, you do not need to take the CBEST. You may be waived from taking the CSETs if your degree aligns with the CTC-determined list of acceptable degrees for your intended credential. For more information on this, contact a National University residency liaison.

Our programs are 18 months long and include a master’s degree. You will be in your mentor classroom from the first day of the school year to the last day of the school year, pending some staffing days respective to district.

Depending on the district in which the residency takes place, residents have the chance to substitute in their district, work as an instructional aid on their campus, or work as a paraprofessional in their mentor classroom. For information about the options specific to the residency you are interested in, contact the coordinator listed on their partner page.
