Specialization Courses

  • 3 courses; 13.5 quarter units

In this course, students study the price system, market structure, and consumer theory as they apply to managers in a variety of decision-making environments. This course covers the use of mathematical and economic decision-making tools for determining optimal levels of output, resource usage, and capacity planning.

A component of behavioral economics, the psychology of economics combines insights from psychology and economics and delves into the scientific examination of decision-making. Unlike traditional economic models that view individuals as purely rational actors, this field acknowledges people as emotional and impulsive beings who are shaped by their surroundings and situations. Throughout this course, students will investigate the main drivers behind choices, including probability, risk, reward, and the concept of time. Students will examine various human biases and behavioral tendencies that impact decisions, often without our conscious awareness. By utilizing its distinctive methodology to analyze a wide range of real-life scenarios, this field equips us with effective tools to enhance the decision-making processes.

Behavioral economics applied to macroeconomic and political contexts in which domestic and international businesses operate. The course emphasizes current macroeconomic innovations and events such as cryptocurrency with a focus on business cycles and policies; global trade and world financial and monetary systems; institutional analysis of government-firm relationships, sustainable development, the environment, and social responsibility.

  • Analyze leadership decision making from the perspective of managerial economics.
  • Evaluate the operation of psychological processes in economic principles.
